About
Mike Hurewitz, LCSW
Introduction
My private practice brings the latest advances in neuroscience into the healing art of therapy. These advanced therapies, coupled with my 20+ years of experience allow me to bring about powerful change in the lives of the adults, children and teenagers I work with.
I offer a free initial 20-minute in-person consultation and look forward to speaking with you about any counseling needs you or your loved ones may have. Evening appointments may be available.
Professional Background
I hold a Master's of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work and a BA from Oberlin College. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Texas (#28222) and am a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
I am a Certified EMDR clinician through EMDRIA, the EMDR International Association, which means that I have completed additional training and consultation requirements beyond the basic EMDR training. I have also pursued specialized training related to somatic psychotherapy within EMDR treatment, the treatment of pain with EMDR and dissociation.
Prior to launching my private practice, I worked as a psychotherapist at Jewish Family Service of Austin and Lone Star Circle of Care, where I provided individual and group therapy for clients ranging in ages from four to eighty. I also gained considerable experience with school issues during previous employment at Round Rock ISD and Communities In Schools - Central Texas, Inc.
In addition to my work as a therapist, I have held supervisory and management positions in the field.
More about me
I enjoy music, guitar and songwriting and have played in bands around Austin over the years. I enjoy being in nature, hiking, camping and once backpacked the southern half of the Appalachian Trail.
